The new budget crossover SUV: Skoda Kliq The Indian Autos Blog portal found documents for registration of the Kliq trademark owned by Skoda in the local Ministry of Industry. It is alleged that this is what the new compact crossover of the brand will be called, which was previously presented in the form of the Vision IN concept. Skoda Enyaq iV might be the most economical MEB-based crossover/SUV on the market in Europe. Skoda recently revealed a camouflaged prototype of its upcoming all-electric model, the Skoda Enyaq iV.

The ŠKODA family of SUVs is about to welcome a new member. The KODIAQ and KAROQ will be joined by a small SUV, and you are now looking at the very first image of it to be released. The picture also reveals that the new ŠKODA SUV’s headlamps will feature an original design. The daytime running lights and dynamic direction indicators draw the eye courtesy of their elevated position away from the headlights.

MQB modular architecture

The abbreviation MQB stands for Modularer Querbaukasten, which can loosely be translated from German as “Modular Transversal Toolkit” or “Modular Transverse Matrix”. Examples of this include the use of safer and lighter high-strength sheet metal and the introduction of advanced driver-assistance systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control, the multi-collision braking system, and Lane Assist. The first ŠKODA to be built on the MQB modular platform was the third-generation OCTAVIA in 2013.

We can not bypass the fact that the compact SUV market is extremely popular. The enormous sales success achieved by Seat Ateca logically prompted Škoda to involve in the market share race.

Exterior dimension copy-paste is very obvious here. Difference in length is less than 2 centimeters in favor of Karoq. Their width is exactly the same at 1.84 m and the height is also similar, give or take a few millimeters.

Škoda Karoq has a ground clearance of 176 mm, while Ateca’s belly sits 188 mm above the surface, 12 mm higher.

Unfortunately, we could not gather a lot of od info about interior dimensions. The only thing available is the headroom front and rear.

Again, very similar measurements, Seat Ateca has a bit more headroom front, while passengers on the rear bench will not notice any difference sitting in Škoda or Seat. In both cases, they will be offered with 1.020 mm of space from the rear seat up to the roof.

Luggage compartment and weight: Karoq vs Ateca

Modern vehicles, made by Škoda, are famous for their practicality. And one of the most appreciated features is the size of the luggage compartment. We are sure engineers received an order to design a bit bigger cargo volume than their competitors.

And yes, they succeeded. Karoq has 11 liters bigger luggage volume vs Seat Ateca with seats up, and 26 liters more room when rear seats are folded down.

On the other hand, Seat has a more sporty reputation. And the total weight plays a part in achieving better performance. Therefore, Seat Ateca is 60 kilograms lighter than Škoda Karoq (in both cases base model).

Similar size usually means similar engines, especially when vehicles come from the same owner. And this is exactly the case here.

The only difference is Ateca can be equipped with a 2-liter petrol engine. Power range is the same, from 85 kW to 140 kW. Torque range is also the same, between 200 and 400 Nm of torque.

Looking at top speed and acceleration of Karoq vs Ateca, there are no major differences. We do not say that the actual feeling when driving one or another is also the same, our statement is based solely on technical data.

As already mentioned before, Seat is sportier between these two, and Škoda is more practical. So looking solely on driving pleasure, Ateca might be a bit better choice here.
